Be Thou My Vision

I was reading this morning and I started the Hymns 2 devotional on my SheReadsTruth app. The first devotional is about the hymn "Be Thou My Vision". Which is kind of my theme here lately.

While I'm not a Type A person, I do like to plan and know what we're doing in the next couple months (at least). We had a plan (sorta) after the Marines: move back home, I'd go back to working full time at the travel agency, pray Jaime would get his current job and if he didn't, he'd find a job elsewhere-we know too many people and there's too many opportunities for Jaime not to find a job relatively soon. I don't want to sound arrogant but we just knew God would provide for us.

The next step would be to buy or build a house. Then we'd wait a couple more years and start a family. Everything sounded hunky dory right? And it has been honestly! But the plans have changed and they are changing for the better! I'll tell you what has changed tomorrow! As I go through this week, I'm going to keep praying to see and gracefully accept God's vision and sing this hymn to myself. I hope you find inspiration & hope while you read/sing the lyrics.

BE THOU MY VISION by Dallan Forgaill, 8th century (translated by Eleanor H. Hull and versified by Mary E. Byrne)

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
